Choose Your Own Adventure was a series of gamebooks for children and young adults written in the second person, in which the reader assumes the role of the protagonist and, in doing so, makes decisions that determine the plot. The series was based on a concept created by Edward Packard and was originally published by Vermont Crossroads Press—founded by Constance Cappel and R. A. Montgomery—under the title Adventures of You, beginning with Packard's book *Sugarcane Island* in 1976. Choose Your Own Adventure, in its Bantam Books edition, was one of the most popular children's series of the 1980s and 1990s, with sales exceeding 250 million copies between 1979 and 1998. The series has been translated into 40 languages. When Bantam—now owned by Random House—allowed the Choose Your Own Adventure trademark to lapse, the series was relaunched by Chooseco. Chooseco began reissuing Packard's titles in August 2025.
